Reopening Golf Course Tespelduyn big success

Last week golfers could finally play another round of golf at Golf Course Tespelduyn. After all, due to the Corona crisis, the golf course had to remain closed for no less than 8 weeks.

'Of course that was a hard blow to have to close the golf course in the high season with also beautiful spring weather,' said director Peter Duivenvoorde. 'And on top of that came the closure of our hospitality industry, so where we normally experience busy times all our activities suddenly came to a halt.'

No stagnation but progress

At Tespelduyn they made a virtue of necessity. 'We didn't sit still for a moment,' says restaurant manager Joyce Nederstigt. 'Our team freshened up all the rooms and all the walls have been painted. Thanks to our catering staff, everything looks tiptop. Around the buildings everything has been taken care of by our kitchen crew; everything looks spic and span again'.

Golf course improvements

'We are now running our ^10th season and we really did have a list of desired improvements to the golf course,' says head greenkeeper Ro Wempe. 'We have used the period of downtime to bring forward investments and have constructed no less than 2,800 m2 of new paths, shifted paths and improved existing paths. In doing so, we have sustainably increased the quality of the course, which is greatly appreciated by our golfers. It is a joy to be at work in the course and to be thanked again and again by the enthusiastic golfers. A very welcome bonus is that the greens and fairways got those 8 weeks of rest and were able to come to full maturity and we as the greenkeeper team were able to give the grass our full attention. More beautiful than at the moment is simply not possible, the course is in optimal condition," Wempe concludes with a proud smile.

Lots of attention for starting golfers

Tjeerd Staal professional of Golfschool Tespelduyn has not been idle either. 'We are finalizing our special teaching program for starting golfers for this summer. A lot of people will be staying home, so we are coming up with appealing golf lesson offerings for the whole family. How fun is it to use the vacation season to learn to play golf together!
