Tespelduyn first golf course with Good Planet Seal for corporate sustainability

Landgoed & Golfbaan Tespelduyn is the first golf course in the Netherlands to be awarded the Good Planet Seal certificate. The Good Planet Seal is an international hallmark awarded to recreation companies and locations that are measurably committed to sustainable entrepreneurship with attention to people, nature, the environment, health and safety. What is unique about the Good Planet Seal is that not only is a certificate awarded but also a scorecard on which visitors can see exactly what the certificate stands for, what is found to be in order and what is not.

The certificate and scorecard were presented by Albert Salman, initiator of the Good Planet Seal, to director Peter Duivenvoorde and sustainability coordinator Jos Ploeg.

Salman explains, "with a tremendously high score of 95%, Tespelduyn shows its commitment to sustainable business. Tespelduyn shows that a golf course can be not only very green but also very sustainable. Striking points are the attention for nature, the publicly accessible high Uitkijkpunt, the vegetables and fruit from own greenhouse and the preservation of an old beach ridge with a high cultural-historical value'.

Proud of 3rd sustainability certification

Ploeg is beaming with pride; "withinLandgoed & Golfbaan Tespelduyn sustainability is integrated in the business processes and is really in our genes. We are constantly being measured against the yardstick in the context of the labels we have had for years, such as Green Key.

Green Key is the international seal of approval for sustainable businesses in the recreation, leisure and business sectors. Companies with a Green Key quality mark do everything they can to preserve the environment, without their guests compromising on comfort and quality. In doing so, they clearly go a step further than normal laws and regulations require. In the Netherlands, we are the only restaurant on a golf course that has a gold Green Key certificate and thus meets the strictest requirements'.

'Also, we are GEO certified,' Peter Duivenvoorde adds. 'GEO stands for Golf Environment Organization and it not only inspects the golf course but also all other departments of the company such as, for example, hospitality. GEO runs in more than 100 countries, so this certificate has real significance. With obtaining the 3rd sustainability certificate, we expect further growth in business meetings for business and government. After all, the government and also local governments have a duty to buy sustainably'.
